Randeep Hooda might be reveling in the triumph of his first directorial venture Swatantra Veer Savarkar at the moment, yet he still harbors a dissatisfaction with regards to the reception of his 2020 Hollywood flick, Extraction, in India. In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the artist mentioned that while the performance was immensely lauded internationally, there was little to no discussion about his portrayal in Extraction within India. Randeep Hooda co-starred alongside Chris Hemsworth in Extraction.

Quotes from Randeep

“No significant reaction in India. It was barely a topic of conversation in India, apart from a handful of media individuals. “The character turned out splendidly. I garnered immense acclaim globally. People were inquisitive, ‘Who’s this performer?’ They also revisited many of my past cinematic works,” revealed Randeep. He further stated that he deliberately opted for the action genre because traditionally, Indians are more linked to peace, and not action.

“I yearned to portray a disruptor in Extraction when the opportunity presented itself. When you step outside the borders and observe India from their viewpoint – and we owe it to Gandhiji – that we aren’t generally perceived as robust physically. We often get cast as cab drivers, 7-Eleven clerks, doctors, technicians. Therefore, when I was granted the chance to engage in fisticuffs with Thor (Chris Hemsworth’s character in Marvel Cinematic Universe), I willingly embraced it,” conveyed Randeep.

Randeep’s Role in Extraction

Randeep undertook the character of Saju, a confidant of Mahajan (Pankaj Tripathi), who’s entrusted with the task of rescuing his son Ovi from the resilient protagonist Tyler Rake (Chris). He partakes in a bare-handed combat with Tyler on the roads of Dhaka, Bangladesh. According to the review by Hindustan Times, Randeep was commended as “remarkable” and his character was depicted as “intriguing, reminiscent of a Samurai.” “He’s towering, yet enigmatic and composed, concealing a moral compass beneath the battle attire,” the review highlighted. Extraction was helmed by Sam Hargrave and produced by Russo Brothers.

Randeep also revealed in the interview his aspirations to direct an action-packed feature film next.
