The Jets seem hopeful for their upcoming season, but not everyone shares the same sentiment.

Kevin Clark from ESPN joined the network’s main football program “NFL Live” on Friday and expressed skepticism about the collaboration between Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the team’s offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett.

“A couple of years ago, I was in Green Bay working on a piece about Matt LaFleur,” mentioned Clark, in reference to the Packers head coach who was appointed in 2019 and oversaw Rodgers’ final four seasons in the NFC before the QB made his way to the Jets last season.

Clark went on to say: “I observed that the highlight of the Rodgers-LaFleur association was LaFleur encouraging Rodgers to embrace fresh ideas, new strategies, and risky plays that he was not accustomed to. I have reservations that the current situation offers the same.”

He later remarked: “I am not very optimistic about this scenario.”

Hackett served as Rodgers’ offensive coordinator with the Packers from 2019-21, aiding in Rodgers’ back-to-back NFL MVP seasons in 2020 and 2021.

As expected, Rodgers did not have the opportunity to play alongside Hackett in his initial season as a Jet beyond the first four snaps of the season, when he suffered an Achilles injury on opening night against the Bills.

In Rodgers’ absence, the Jets’ offense struggled, ranking 29th in the NFL with an average of 15.8 points per game.

The Gang Green franchise is hopeful for a better outcome this season, as they aim to end their 14-year playoff absence.
